Property in Bulgaria's Smolyan Region Attracts Foreign Buyers

14.02.2007

Foreign investors are increasingly interested in the purchase of property in Bulgaria's Smolyan region. Houses and older plots in Rhodopi Mountain villages became objects of interest because of the low prices, imoti.net reported. Such deals have one main advantage. The purchased property can be renovated and registered as a separate administrative unit. Such units have the right to benefit from EU funding for development. Preserving the typical mountain architecture further increases interest in such property. A number of wealthy Western investors showed interest in typical Bulgarian houses located in secluded areas, imoti.net reported. To make use of the new development, Bulgarians started purchasing houses and restoring them, while preserving their authenticity. The price of such houses varies from 160 to 170 euro per sq m. Older houses cost less and the price of sq m varies from 100 to 160 euro.
